Vanessa Carlton is a new young artist that has come a long way in a very short amount of time. She got a four star rating on her debut album, Be Not Nobody. That says a lot for a young artist these days. She not only has a beautiful voice, but she can play the piano like Beethoven. She even writes her own lyrics and Alicia Keys influenced her. Although people may say that they sound alike, they are entirely different artists. Stephen Erlewine, the writer from allmusicguide.com, says that she has the soul-searching of Fiona Apple and the precise intricacies of Rick Wakeman. Her style is very laid-back and relaxing. She uses a lot of orchestral background music to help aid her Spring-like voice. The result is something quite surprising: it has an overwhelming, sweet, multi-layered appeal to people of all ages and cultures. The first person who actually introduced me to her music was one of my guy friends. He is only twenty and he is African American. I was surprised to hear that he moved out of his normal rap music and actually paid attention to someone like Vanessa Carlton. When I first heard her voice, I thought she was about twenty-six years old. I was soon startled when I found out that she was only my age. In Parsons Journey the children are the only hope for Afghanistan s future. Do you agree? Children are the only hope for the future of Afghanistan because Varian and the others used to live differently than the other people in Afghanistan. One day Varian found a baby inside a bombed house and she took the baby girl along with her so that she doesnt get bored. Varian found ASPI in a cave who couldnt walk because he lost his leg in the war, ASPI scared Varian by saying that he Is holding a gun towards her and if she comes any further he will be shooting her.Still Varian as not angry or was not offended. Later on when they were friends she took care of ASPI she never use to make fun of ASPI as he Is not having a leg. Varian was a kind of girl who use to take care of everybody throughout the Journey through the villages. When Varian was going through villages, one day she saw a baby crying In a house where his mother was lying beside she said the boy you are Like my brothers height. This shows that Varian was a caring natured girl even If she Is having to many hurdles in her own life. ASPI was rude. E used to shout at Varian by saying bring some food by throwing the pot towards dont like people throwing things to me. .. If you want food go get it by yourself Varian said.. . Again he shouted back saying L cant walk cant you see that? How stupid you are, even though ASPI was rude she never used to be upset about that and still took him with him as he was all alone. Moreover when use to say her plans to ASPI about how she will be escaping from Afghanistan. He said that he was coming with her, Just to annoy her, but that was not the only reason for coming with her. This character shows that she was all et that she will take ASPI and Hosannas along with him to live a better life. Her imagination keeps them going. They found a girl named Leila, she takes them to her house and she also teaches them how to get food from the mines. They decided to stay for a while Varian use to educate ASPI what she knows. When they were out of food and were all hungry she was the one to go to the village and ask for job in change of food. Her dream was to live forever happily in green valley where there will be no bombs or no mine and they will live happily ever after.

Mandatory Drug Testing in High Schools is Needed and Effective - PowerPoint Presentation Example A close and unbiased assessment of each of these contentions, however, points to fundamental weaknesses in their formulation and, by extension, to the merits of proactive efforts at assuring drug-free students and drug-free schools. There are a number of fundamental values and related underlying assumptions at work in consideration of organized proactive efforts at preventing drugââ¬âand, for that matter, alcoholââ¬âabuse among students. Considered in the abstract, a school is in many respects an artificially created society in which a group of (we hope) mature adults is organized to convey a spectrum of information to a likely less mature group of adolescents. Absorption of that informationââ¬âA K A, the curriculumââ¬âis intended to both facilitate the adolescentsââ¬â¢ entry into responsible, independent adulthood and, equally important, acquire skill sets that will eventually translate into improved employment prospects. Needless to say, both the students in particular and society at large have vested interests in favorable outcomes in this endeavor. Having said all that, it must be emphasized that the school environmentââ¬âhowever loath we are to admit itââ¬âcannot be all that democratic and still function effectively. First, there is a built-in assumption that the teachers know more than the students (whatever the latter may think). And, as a corollary, achieving the objective of conveying knowledge to the student body must eventually take precedence over the parochial interests of its individual members that might inhibit that effort. Second, in many respects a schoolââ¬â¢s administration is effectively in the position of acting in loco parentis. This is not a privilege. It is a responsibility and it is one that schools cannot casually disregard. Each of these factors is implicated in any in-school drug-prevention program. It is eminently reasonable to argue

PERFORMANCE APPRASIAL AT KFSH&RC - Essay Example Feedback process 23 1. Importance of feedback 23 2. The re-engineering process of the Human Resource Department 24 3. Results of survey 26 4. Discussion 33 5. Conclusion 35 6. References 38 Executive Summary This dissertation comes in two parts. Chapter 1 reviews whether there is a need to change or update the existing performance appraisal being used by the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre. Under the present environment of technological and communication advances, there are many changes noted in the use of the traditional system. The study also shows that the PAS of the KFSH&RC is not consistent with the social and cultural idioms of the hospital as it is patterned after the American environment which is totally different from that of Saudi Arabia. Data gathering from published literatures, studies and opinions of noted authors is done to amplify the recommendation and conclusion that an update is needed under the circumstances In chapter II of the study, the reco mmendation in part I has been followed so that the design of the Human Resources at King Faisal Hospital Science & Research Center is being re-engineered by the management. A memorandum to this effect has been sent by the Human Resources Department to all managers and supervisors to take part on the exercise, training and proper information. As one of the basis for the re-engineered design, a feedback information is desired by management to complete the structure of its design plan. Knowing what the personnel feels will equip them with the knowledge of what is really going on inside the organization and what is really needed and thus be able to correct deficiencies in the system. To gain insight of the personnelââ¬â¢s perception on the performance appraisal and also to find out the needs of personnel on training and development, a survey was conducted to 139 personnel of the hospital representing 2% of the total number of personnel of KFHSRC. The number of sample has been limited due to limitations of time and resources to conduct a larger number of sampling. Result showed majority of respondents believed on the validity of performance appraisal for rating performance. Survey shows training and development are needed by some respondents while some respondents do not understand their job responsibilities. Findings of the study can be used as references by the Human Resource Management in correcting deficiencies of performances and developing programs for development of personnel. A REVIEW OF THE PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL SYSTEM AT KFSH&RC Introduction The King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center appraisal system has been developed by the hospital in 1988. It is a system based on the American Appraisal system that has been adopted by the hospital in 1975. The pros and cons of the present appraisal system of the hospital are reviewed to determine if there is a need to update or replace or the PAS totally. Chapter 1 of the study presents the overview of the KFSH&RC, the present performance system and its benefits. This section also presents a review of literature that includes the criticisms, studies and researches that argue about instituting new measures of performance evaluation of employees and gauging employee job satisfaction. Chapter II discusses the implementation of the re-engineering project for the human

Stanley has been sent to camp green lake (a juvenile center). He was arrested, and later guilty for stealing a pair of shoes. Back at school, there was a bully named Derrick Dunne. Derrick used to torment Stanley. The teachers never took Stanleyââ¬â¢s complaints seriously, because Derrick was so much smaller than Stanley. Some teachers even seemed to find it weird that a little boy like Derrick could pick on someone as big as Stanley. On the day Stanley was arrested, Derrick had taken Stanleyââ¬â¢s notebook and after a long game of come and get it, Derrick finally dropped it in the toilet in the boysââ¬â¢ restroom. By the time Stanley retrieved it he had missed his bus and had to walk home. It was while he was walking home, carrying his wet notebook, with the job of having to copy the ruined pages that were messed up, that the sneakers fell from the sky. He didnââ¬â¢t know what they were or whom they were fro m so he kept them. Then Stanley heard sirens and ran, he didnââ¬â¢t know why he ran but he kept on running. Later Stanley found out that the shoes belonged to Clyde Livingston A.K.A sweet feet, his favorite pro athlete. He also found out that the shoes were going to a homeless shelter. So Stanley was in trouble. The judge gave him a choice. ââ¬Å"You can go to camp green lake, or to jailâ⬠. Stanley never had been to camp before so he chose camp. Stanley then was on the bus for 8 hours. When he got to camp green lake there was no lake, there wasnââ¬â¢t any grass all there wasnââ¬â¢t anything but empty space. Then Stanley went to the Warden; the rules were presented to him there. He was to do dig a hole 5 feet in diameter and 5 feet deep. But there really was one rule donââ¬â¢t mess with the warden. He was introduced to his tent then he started digging hole first thing every morning af... ...when Stanley did the same thing that Madame Zeroni said he broke the curse. They ate onions and drunk water while they were up there, remember yellow spotted lizards donââ¬â¢t like onions. When Stanley put all of the clues together he remembered the hole he found the tube of lipstick in and dug around it and found the treasure. Yellow spotted lizard was all around it but still they ate onions. The warden caught them and thanked them for there help, and Mr. Pendanski pointed out that Stanleyââ¬â¢s lawyer came the day before and found out that he was innocent. The next morning the lizards still havenââ¬â¢t made a scratch but then Stanleyââ¬â¢s lawyer came to get Stanley. As soon as Stanley came out because the Warden lied on him, and after that the warden wanted they treasure but she couldnââ¬â¢t because it said his name on it and it was his property but Stanley couldnââ¬â¢t leave zero so they were looking for his file but the warden threw it out he ran away. So w hen there wasnââ¬â¢t a file it was a little weird to the lawyer so they just took him and he hired a team of private investigators to find her. When they did they lived next to each other and thatââ¬â¢s the story of holes. à à à à Ã

This Method may be considered as the predecessor of the conventional multiplication procedures. The method involves the use of arrays or tables, the sizes of which depend on the number of digits in the multiplier and the multiplicand, respectively. Unlike the conventional method, however, which altitudes numbers from right to left and from bottom to top, the grating method multiplies numbers from left to right and from top to bottom. This method also includes diagonals to be drawn along the corners of the array. One advantage of this method is that it performs multiplication operations before addition operations Bones Method. This method was introduced in 1617 by John Napier of Scotland in his attempt to reduce tedious calculations involving large numbers. His ââ¬Å"bones or rodâ⬠, made a great impression on the Europeans and the Chinese. The principle behind he bones method may be considered as a mixture of the principles of the abacus and of the grating method. Each rod is div ided into nine squares, each of which is divided into nine squares, each of which is divided diagonally. The top square holds a number (1-9). The remaining eight squares in the rod hold the product of multiplying that number by 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.Once it is set up, it is easy to get the product of a single-digit number and any other value from the top squares and the left rod, because the numbers in the middle are used to obtain the product. Sluggard Method. With the introduction of paper, the Arabs and the Hindus were able to develop a method which may give the product of numbers up to 10 x 10. This method, which was then called the sluggard method, is similar to the finger-counting method in principle. In fact, it can be said to be the finger-counting method on paper. Because, likewise, one has to memorize the multiplication table from 1 ââ¬â 5 before this could be applied. The ââ¬Å"Arabic Numeralsâ⬠System.
